KBX Gym

March/April 2010

Eldon Miller

We have known Mr. Miller here at KBX for going on 6 years.  In fact his wife and daughter were two of the very first members to sign up when the gym opened.  Some of you may know his daughter Lizzy Miller who has actually fought out of KBX several times and made her pro MMA debut last April at Wild Bill's.  his wife Diane has attended the kickboxing and other conditioning classes over the years.

After much persuasion, Diane FINALLY got Eldon to come workout at KBX.  In fact, they both dove in head first and took on the member body challenge that started about 4 weeks ago.  Eldon is leading the pack of challengers with a total weight loss of 12.8 pounds, and he's loving it!  He's looking fitter and feeling the benefits.  Great job Eldon, keep up all the hard work!

LeaAnne Orr

2 kids

LeaAnne has been training with Marshell for the past 3 years.  She is always very consistant with her training and enjoys a mixture of weight training and cardio as well as boxing and kickboxing to stay in shape.  Despite her dilegence in her training, her stressful and busy lifestyle has made it difficult in the past to get to her ideal weight.  LeaAnne is a loving and caring individual who focuses her energy on helping others.  She is also a competitive rider and owns her own horse farm, Dreamland Farms, where she passes on her love for riding to others with the same passion.

This past year, LeaAnne took the challenge to focus on herself and reach her ultimate goals in fitness.  She bumped her training up into gear, got focused on her diet and health and that was just the beginning.  Starting with 20 lbs, then 40lbs and reaching over 60lbs in total weight loss, she is still plunging forward and continuing to lose healthy weight and keep it off.   Her transformation has been absolutely amazing!  LeaAnne is truely an inspiration to us all and she has proved that you can reach absolutely any goal if you are dedicated and positive.  She has never lost her positive attitude and that has been the key to her success.   LeaAnne is still working towards her ultimate goal, so be sure to check back or her final after pictures in the VERY near future!

Matt and Melissa Ryan

Ages: 29 and 33

Matt and Melissa Ryan,  have been coming to KBX for over 3 years now.  Before they were members, they were competitive runners and triathletes.  They have religiously attended the 6am Cardio Bootcamps as well as some kickboxing and bodytoning classes.  Since they started here they have competed in over 50 races combined including 5k and 10k, half marathons, bike races, triathlons and even a full marathon.  They have both also greatly increased their times since they started the classes.  In the last few years, Matt had a tremendous Knee injury resulting in surgery.  With many months of therapy and a lot of heart and determination he was able to overcome his injury, and despite his prognosis, he was able to continue to race at a competitive level.  Here are just a few of the races they have done since they have been at KBX.

Karen Hood

Age: 44

Karen has always loved horses and riding them, but started riding with Leanne Orr in 2004.  In the past 2 years she has had many ups and downs with riding mainly due to her weight and therefore self confidence.  In the beginning of the year, Leanne had encouraged her to start coming to KBX, so Karen starting working out one on one with Heike.  Since then, she has greatly improved her level of fitness and has also dropped 2 pant and shirt sizes.  Plus, she went from a size 22 riding jacket, down to a 16!

For the adult level, Equitation is very difficult since the adult division is 18 years old and up.  The average age for adults is 18-30.  In the past, Karen did not do well in Equitation partly because of her self confidence and also because the judging is based on a complete picture of the rider and the horse, including the riders appearance.  Being overweight gave her a huge disadvantage compared to the other riders.  This year, however, she placed 1st in the division and is on a huge winning streak in competition.  She is also leading the Adult Amateur Hunter and Adult Equitation in the Georgia Hunter Jumper Association.  Not only is she looking great and doing great with riding, she feel's great too!  She definitely has her self confidence back!

Name: Kirsten Bordwick aka "the machine"

age: 40

Kirsten is one of longest attending members of KBX Gym.  In August, she will be celebrating her 5th year with us here!  Not only has she been here almost as long as the gym itself has been open, she has been consistent with her training ever since she joined.  By consistent, we don't mean she comes regularly 3 to 4 times a week for a class, we mean that she is here EVERYDAY for at LEAST one class.  After a class, you may see kirsten working out with weights or running on the treadmill.  On a Saturday you may see her here for the 8:30 BodyTone, the 9:30 Kickboxing and then for a 3rd class of Krav maga training to finish.  Not only is Kirsten in phenomenal shape, she has also been a great help and asset to the gym as well.  After a class, you may see her leading the ab routine or helping a beginner in Krav Maga since she is one of our few level 3 female students.  She has also helped out teaching classes when we are out of town for fights.  Kirsten is truly a member of our family here at KBX Gym and we are gratful to have her here with us!

April/May 2009

Name: Bryann Crumley

2 kids

Bryann has been training at KBX with Heike for about a year and a half. When she started, she had just had her second child not many months before and was starting a completely new training regimen to get in shape after her pregnancy. With lots of hard work, in and out of the gym, she has achieved phenomenal results. If you look at her now, you would think she was a personal trainer herself! Not only does she look amazing, she has the muscle strength to back it up. Her next goal has been to tone up, and she has definitely been putting in the time and effort to do so. When she's not training with Heike, you will see her pumping out her cardio, whether it's running on the treadmill, pushing herself on the strairclimber or doing sprints up the hill at maximum effort. Bryann is a great example of how anyone can reach their fitness goals with hard work and determination. Great job Bryann!
