Monthly SpotlightApril '08Name: Kurt Terry Age: 49 Kurt has been a part of the KBX family for almost 3 years. Usually when you see him come in for boxing in the evenings, he is just starting his day as he heads to work afterward for the night shift. Even under the stress of long uncommon hours, he has still managed to make boxing and exercise a consistent hobby. Not only does he participate in classes, he is always willing to lend a helping hand to other members and has also been a great help to some of our fighters, as he will always volunteer for sparring. Kurt is an impressive handyman as well, who has often taken charge to fix up equipment and even create some great conditioning tools such as our monkey bars and gymnastic style rings. He is also a talented photographer and is the man behind many of our "Fight Night" pictures on the website. Without members like Kurt, KBX would not be the family environment we strive to be. We owe him many thanks for all his hard work and participation in making KBX what it is today. February '08Name: Jen Anderson-2 children Jen is proof that with hard work and perseverance you can achieve your goals. Jen has been a member at KBX for over 2 years and participates daily in the conditioning classes. Over the past few months she has also been doing personal training with Marshell and has had exceptional results. Not only is she the mother of 2, but her youngest just turned one year this month! You would never know this by her energy level and conditioning. In the past few weeks Jen has set the member record for the famous "Plate Push" (those who have done this, know what a challenge it is) with an astounding 12 times in a row! Great job Jen, keep up the hard work! UPDATE: On Tuesday, March 5th, Jen beat her plate push record by 2 times bringing it to 14 times IN A ROW! This was AFTER Marshell "killed" her legs for 40 minutes! Way to go Jen...BOO-YAH! January '08Name: Lizzy Miller Age: 19 Over the past 4 years since KBX first opened, Lizzy Miller has made some amazing changes. She started taking kickboxing classes with her Mom and she stuck with the exercise trend losing around 30 pounds and completely transforming her body. She also did personal training with Marshell Davis and started participating in the Krav Maga program over a year ago when it first started. She excelled at all the techniques and turned out to have exceptional grappling and submission skills. In the past 6 months she has trained extremely hard at an athletic level and has participated in 2 exhibition fights. One kickboxing, and one grappling/karate bout. She has now been preparing for her first fight at Wild Bill's which will also be the first ever female Mixed Martial Arts bout at Wild Bill's Fight Night. Great job on all the hard work Lizzy, we are all very proud of you!
December '07Name: Chris Casatelli With a total weight loss of 35lbs to date, Chris has not only embraced a healthier lifestyle, he has also found a fulfilling new pastime. Along with cardio kickboxing, and boxing classes to keep up with his conditioning, Chris also participates in the Krav Maga program as well. On October 27th, he tested and passed the 4 hour, Level 1 Krav Maga exam. Not only did he do it with great energy, he completed it with an injury to his ankle. The day prior to the test, Chris broke up two dogs that had engaged in a fight, suffering a bite to his ankle. He showed great heart through the entire test, with nobody knowing the pain he was in, and even encouraged and pushed the other students. Starting with no previous experience in martial arts or self defense, he has proved to be proficient in the skills he has learned in the short time he has been at KBX. Great job Chris!
NOVEMBER 2007Gary Arnold Age: 53 When Gary first started coming to KBX, he could barely get through an entire class. Now, making two to three trips to the gym a day, Gary has made fitness and Krav Maga his pastime. His daily routine consists of either bootcamp or kickboxing as well as Krav Maga class or a one on one lesson with head instructor, Marshell Davis. If he isn't participating in Krav Maga, he is right there helping out the other students. Not only has Gary greatly improved his health and conditioning, he has successfully tested and passed though the first two levels of Krav Maga. With his positive attitude and sense of humor, he is proof that you can do anything you set your mind to. Keep up the good work Gary!
